Sears commissioned murals as pictorial presentations of history that appeared in various Sears stores throughout the United States. The murals were painted on canvas. His first such mural was for a store in Houston in 1939. A notable mural, for Allstate Insurance in Chicago in the 1950s, depicted the history of the automobile age. His last known mural was for a Sears store in Phoenix, Arizona in 1962.
